MIRPURKHAS, July 20: A Nadra official has accused Pakistan People’s Party MPA Shamim Ara Panhwar of pressurising staff of the Nadra mobile unit to withdraw a case filed against PPP workers on charges of ransacking the unit’s office and manhandling staff on Saturday.

The MPA accompanied by party office-bearers and workers, including the man nominated in the FIR, visited the office, levelled baseless allegations against the staff and threatened them to withdraw the case or face action, In-charge of Nadra Mirpurkhas office Afroze Ali told journalists at the press club.

He said he had told her that the case had been lodged on the directives of higher authorities and he was unable to do anything. PPP workers misbehaved with and beat up the staff, ransacked the office and used abusive language, he said and added that the FIR had been lodged at Town police station.

He alleged that the investigation police were doing nothing to arrest the accused. Instead of taking notice of the workers’ wrongdoings, the MPA and party office-bearers were condoning their activities and encouraging them, he regretted.

He demanded that the provincial police officer, RPO of Hyderabad and DIG of Mirpurkhas should take notice of the incident and direct police to arrest the accused immediately.—Correspondent
