SIALKOT, July 14: A gang of alleged extortionists occupied, a haveli, a house and two acres of a woman in Bhaagowal for not paying them Rs500,000 million as Jagga tax, the victim told reporters here on Monday.

Maqsooda Saif said extortionists-cum-usurpers, led by Asmatullah, alias Lala, had occupied her haveli a week ago for not paying them a Rs250,000 Jagga tax. Later, they increased their demand to Rs500,000 and also occupied her house and two acres worth Rs6 million.

She said even though she had informed Sadar police about the incident but police were reluctant to register a case against the accused. She said the extortionists were threatening her with consequences for reporting the matter to police. She alleged Bhaagowal police check-post and Sialkot Sadar police station officials patronised the influential occupants.

She said she had two other houses in the village and the accused were also trying to occupy her other houses too.

“My family is in danger as the accused are threatening me to kill all of my family,” she added.

“I have lost my property and but I don’t want to lose my children,” she said. She urged the chief minister and the inspector general to provide her security, besides, directing the police to ensure the early arrest of the accused and retrieve her property.

DPO Muhammad Amin said he had directed police to take action against the accused.
