BUNER, July 14: A force of 400 volunteers was installed in Daggar, headquarters of the district, for community policing, sources said here on Monday.

In this connection, a meeting of the volunteers was held at the Police Lines Daggar on Sunday. DPO Mohamamd Khaliq Khan, DSP Sultan Akbar and other officials were present on the occasion. The special force would be installed in all district as per directives of the provincial government, the sources added.

In-charge of the force, Quresh Khan, introduced the volunteers at the meeting and said that they had been selected on the basis of their good character. He said that the volunteers would be given special identity cards, certificates and other facilities.

They would play positive role in maintenance of law and order, and would identify anti-social elements. The volunteers would also make efforts for reconciliation among people to resolve conflicts, he added.

DPO Khan hoped that the volunteer force would add input to the police to wipe out criminal elements and maintain peace in the district. He promised that the volunteers would get job quota in the police department to encourage volunteerism among the youth.

DIFFERENCES: PPP local leaders have expressed concern over the growing differences in the party ranks in Buner district, saying that it would harm the party position if the central leadership did not intervene to stop the wrangling among some workers and local leaders.

Talking to journalists at Daggar on Monday, PPP provincial council members Razi Mulk Khan and Johar Ali Khan said that the differences would undermine party’s position in the district. They urged the party high command to intervene.

They objected to the role of PPP former district president Usman Shah Khan, alleging that despite the general body’s decision to dissolve the district cabinet, he had adopted pressure tactics to keep hold on the party.
