Lesco staffers stage demo

KASUR, July 12: Around 400 Lesco officials staged a demonstration on Saturday at Jambar grid station against the company’s superintending engineer (SE) who had suspended two line superintendents for their alleged involvement in a transformer theft case in June.

Lesco officials from Jambar, Pattoki, Chunian, Phoolnagar and Kasur led by Mian Amir and Rana Zafar Mahmood Joya observed one-hour complete strike from 12pm to 1pm and later gathered outside the Phoolnagar divisional office and chanted slogans against SE Sheikh Zahid Latif.

On June 13, the SE had suspended from service two line superintendents for their alleged involvement in the theft of a transformer worth Rs1 million from an oil mills in Phoolnagar Sadar police precincts.

The owners of a transformers workshop, Muhammad Sadaqat and Muhammad Azeem, along with two employees allegedly stole a transformer from Munawar Oil Mills in connivance with some Lesco officials. After initial investigations, the Lesco SE suspended line superintendents Karamat Masih and Sajad Hussain Shah from services for their alleged involvement in the theft.

The protesters chanted slogans against the S.E. and demanded immediate reinstatement of the suspended line superintendents. They also demanded the transfer of the SE besides conducting an inquiry against him.

THEFT: Thieves took away gold jewellery, cash and valuables worth Rs750,000 from a house in Chowk Bhorwala in Raja Jang police limits on Friday night.

Muhammad Imran and his family members were sleeping when thieves broke into the house and deprived the family of 26 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs60,000 in cash and other valuables. The police registered a case.
