ATTOCK, July 12: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani has placed four police officials, including three sub- inspectors (SIs), of the Khurd police station under suspension for conducting “illegal checking” of vehicles on the main GT Road.

The officials have been directed to report to the district police lines and a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against them, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

The RPO had directed the district police to stop illegal checking of the vehicles on the road but the sub-inspectors - Tariq Mehmood, Muhammad Ali Khan and Sarfaraz Ahmad - and Head Constable Muhammad Altaf violated the instructions.

Taking notice of the incident, the RPO suspended the officials. District Police Officer Muhammad Wisal Fakhar will hold the inquiry.

Meanwhile, the DPO expressed his dissatisfaction over performance of the four police stations of Sadder, City, Hazro and Bahtar regarding crime control.

The DPO decided to take departmental action against the respective station house officers (SHOs) and also issued showcause notices to them.

The DPO took this action at a monthly crime meeting held at the district police headquarters here on Saturday to review performance of 14 police stations of the district.

He also awarded a cash of Rs300,000 to the relatives of two police constables, Muhammad Riaz and Riasat, each who were killed in an encounter with some outlaws few months ago. While, Rs200,000 were given to two police officials each, who were injured in the encounter.

The DPO directed the all SHOs and SDPOs to launch crackdown on the gambling and drug dens and arrest the proclaimed offenders court absconders and other wanted criminals in their respective areas.
