LAHORE, July 8: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday Rs1 million each for the families of the officials of the Punjab police who died in a bomb blast in Islamabad on Sunday.

The amount will be in addition to the financial assistance to be given by the Police Department to the heirs to police officials.

He said this while giving a cheque for Rs1m to the widow of head-constable Shabbir Ahmad Raza, who was killed by a proclaimed offender during an attempt to arrest the latter.

The chief minister directed Inspector General (IG) Shaukat Javed the flag of Punjab Police be displayed at the site of bomb blast in Islamabad and homage be paid to the deceased by laying floral wreaths there.

He said the nation was proud of the sacrifices of officials of Punjab Police. He directed the IG to provide jobs to one member each of the deceased’s families.

He said the Punjab government had decided to bear the expenditures on the education of children of those policemen who died while on duty.
