RAWALPINDI, July 8: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi No2 Tuesday extended the judicial remand of nine suspected terrorists arrested from a densely populated locality in Sadiqabad area for another fourteen days.

Special Judge ATC-II Sakhi Mohammad Kahot extended the judicial remand of the accused Intikhab Abbasi, Abid Khan, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Kabi, Qamaruz Zaman, Zafar Ali, Mohammad Zameer, Mohammad Touqir and Mohammad Sajjad after the investigation officer submitted before the court that they needed more time for the completion of their investigations.

After this, the court adjourned the hearing till July 22, 2008 for further proceedings.

Earlier, police had registered a case number 291/08 against the accused under sections 4, 5 of Explosive Act, 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act with Sadiqabad police station.

The accused were brought to the court in two armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and were hoodwinked apparently owing to security reason.

The suspected terrorists were arrested from Dhoke Kala Khan, and the police seized three explosive laden vehicles.

According to Rehman A Malik advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, three of the six arrested men were suicide bombers and they could target sensitive places in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Over 1,000 kg explosive materials were concealed in different parts of two four wheelers and a car.

Meanwhile, the ATC-I Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman directed City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to take departmental action against the SHO Airport as he failed to produce a guarantor in a dacoity case.
