KHANEWAL, July 7: The local police claimed on Monday to have arrested four members of an inter-district criminals gang involved in snatching of trailers loaded with valuables.

Police also recovered looted goods and valuables worth Rs14.2 million from the criminals.

DPO Muhammad Kamran Khan told reporters that the 10-member Amjad gang was led by Amjad Husain Sahi of Chowk Azam, Layyah district.

He said the gang had looted a Karachi-bound trailer loaded with 48 tons of export quality rice in the limits of Kabirwala police station on June 23.

The DPO said a police team, led by the Kabirwala DSP, was constituted to trace the number and whereabouts of the criminals. He said on Monday the police team raided the hideout of criminals and arrested ringleader Amjad, Haq Nawaz, Mukhtiar Husain and Farooq while the rest of them managed to escape.

Mr Khan said the police recovered 1,150 rice bags, a trailer, a truck, a car besides one 7mm rifle and three 30-bore pistols from them.

The DPO said at least 20 cases had been registered against the Amjad gang by police stations in Khangarh (Muzaffargarh), New Multan (Multan), Kabirwala and Mian Channu.
