LAHORE, July 6: Flour remained in great demand at Sunday bazaars set up by the City District Government Lahore at nine places.

After six months or so, long queues were seen in front of vehicles offering 20-kg flour bag at the control price of Rs365 as against the open market rate between Rs400 and Rs450. Besides, the Atta Chaki mill owners have increased by Re1 the per kilo price of the essential commodity.

Sanitary conditions were far from satisfactory at the makeshift markets at Gulshan-i-Ravi, near Moon Market of Allama Iqbal Town, Tajpura (Ghaziabad), Green Town, Johar Town, Shalimar Bagh, Jallo Mor, Shadman Link Road, Wahdat Colony and R-Block of Model Town.

The number of customers besides the quality, quantity and prices of most vegetables and fruits at Sunday bazaars, set up by the CDGL to provide subsidised edibles to people, registered an increase on a week-on-week (WoW) basis.

Onion price was up between Re1 to Rs2 per kilo and fixed at Rs10 to Rs14 against last week rate of Rs9 to Rs12; ginger (China) price registered an increase between Rs30 to Rs35 per kg and was available between Rs90 to Rs100 as against last week price between Rs60 and Rs65 per kilo; lady-finger prices went up by Rs2 per kilo and sold between Rs18 and Rs22 as against Rs16 to Rs20 per kilo last week.

Green chillies price was also increased between Rs9 and Rs10 per kilo and sold between Rs24 and Rs28 per kg as against last week price of Rs15 to Rs18; pumpkin was sold between Rs16 and Rs20 as against last week price between Rs8 and Rs10 per kilo. Cucumber prices remained unchanged between Rs15 and Rs20 per kilo. The prices of potatoes (new) registered a decrease of Rs6 per kilo and fixed between Rs6 and Rs22 from last week Rs15 to Rs28 per kilo. However, vendors were seen selling B-grade potato at Rs22 per kilo.

The market committee had fixed the price of potato (store) between Rs10 and Rs12 per kilo as against Rs10 to Rs14 of last week.

The price of tomato also reduced by Rs2 per kilo and was sold between Rs15 and Rs20 as against last week price between Rs15 and Rs22 per kilo. Garlic (local) was sold between Rs14 and Rs20 per kilo; bitter gourd was sold between Rs14 and Rs18 per kilo from last week Rs15 to Rs20; lemons were sold between Rs25 and Rs40 from Rs30 to Rs45 per kilo.

Apples were available between Rs24 and Rs150 per kilo; mangoes between Rs14 and Rs38 per kg and banana from Rs15 to Rs56 per dozen.
