DERA ISMAIL KHAN, July 6: Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi has urged the students to forge unity among their ranks to take on the challenges country was facing.

This he said while addressing a meeting at the Senate Hall of the Gomal University here, the other day. Vice-chancellor of the varsity Dr Mohammad Farid Khan was also present on the occasion.

Mr Kundi inaugurated the department of Sarieki language at the varsity on the occasion and announced that with the help of the foreign donor agencies and using indigenous resources the departments of Urdu and Pashto languages would also be established at the varsity.

He said that he would also strive to launch a television channel in the district.

The deputy speaker said provision of gas to the university would also be ensured. He also announced to approve a special grant of Rs60 million to help the university overcome its financial problems.

He said that work was in progress on the runway of the airport. Mr Kundi said that he would leave no stone unturned to work for the uplift and prosperity of the people of Dera Ismail Khan.

Earlier, the National Assembly deputy speaker inaugurated an international cricket stadium at the new campus of the university and announced that it would be converted from category II to category I and the stadium would be named after the late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He also inaugurated an FM radio station at the city Campus.

Speaking on the occasion the vice-chancellor of Gomal University Dr Mohammad Farid Khan said that the varsity had been established by the founder of Pakistan People’s Party Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto which was a gift for the people of D.I. Khan.
