MULTAN, July 5: A father’s search for his 13-year-old kidnapped daughter at last ended on Saturday when he threw himself in front of an approaching train near Qutabpur railway station after he could no more sustain police pressure for reconciliation with the accused. He died on the spot.

Reports said rickshaw driver Muhammad Subhan, a resident of Latifabad, lodged an FIR (No187/137) at Qutabpur police station that three accused, Shehzad, Munawar and Shamshad Bibi, kidnapped his daughter Sana on April 14.

Sources said the police arrested two of the accused but started pressurising the plaintiff for reaching reconciliation with them. Perveen Bibi, the widow of Subhan, told journalists that her husband was upset due to kidnapping of Sana and the police pressure for reconciliation. She alleged the police also demanded bribe for recovering their daughter.

As a result, Subhan committed suicide at 8am by plunging in front of Multan-bound Faisalabad Express. Muzaffarabad DSP Masud Gujar said the police had arrested two accused but the complainant insisted the third one, Shamshad Bibi, was responsible for the kidnap.

He denied police was bribed, saying the accused were too poor to `oblige’ them.

He said the accused were on physical remand, claiming police would recover the kidnapped girl ‘at any cost’.— Correspondent
