ISLAMABAD, July 1: Pakistan’s emerging breed of squash players made an upward jump on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) international men’s ranking table released on Tuesday.

Top ranked national player, Aamir Atlas Khan, Farhan Mehboob and Yasir Butt have improved their PSA rankings.

According to the latest data of rankings released by the PSA, Aamir moved up nine points upward on the table and is now at No. 23, earlier ranked at No.32 in the world.

Farhan, also rose up by four points in the world from 36 to 32. Yasir Butt jumped on to No.40 from his previous ranking of No.45.

Aamir, is the youngest player in the top 25 PSA Men’s world ranking table.

Aamir’s ranking improved after he lifted the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) International Men’s Championship 2008, defeating compatriot Farhan Mehboob.

The top ranked national player, Aamir, told Dawn that he is hopeful to lift the upcoming World Junior men’s campionship, scheduled to be held in Zurich from July 27.

“Being the top seed of the tournament I am very much sure that I can bring the title back home after 24 years,” he claimed.

When asked that World Junior Men’s Championship is not a ranking tournament Aamir said that the title is more important to Pakistan.

“It is the title which matters the most to the country however, it will not affect my ranking as I will be playing a $ 35,000 ranking tournament in Columbia in August,” added Aamir.

Farhan, said that forthcoming CIMB Malaysia Open tour will further increase his world ranking.

Farhan will be featuring in the event and is the eighth seed of the CIMB Malaysia Open.

Yasir, world No. 40, said he came all the way from No128 to No.40 in the PSA ranking table. Yasir is also featuring in ŠCIMB Malaysia Open but would play in the qualifying round.
