KARACHI, June 29: Favourite three-year-old bay filly Black Velvet justified the confidence reposed in her when she stormed to facile victory to make it two on the trot in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

She edged past colt The Reyan by one-and-a-half lengths with jockey M. Nasir in the saddle. Filly Dilruba finished further five lengths behind to grab third place while Kicking King completed the frame.

Six-year-old bay Bharosa celebrated the day by completing a double hat-trick when he claimed the feature event in style. With five wins under his belt, Bharosa galloped to a splendid three lengths’ victory over Black Girl for the honours.

The horse from the stables of Abdul Rafay Farooqi was sprinted home by Nasir which helped him complete a double. He was saddled by Aurangzeb Khan.

In an earlier race, six-year-old bay mare Voo Doo Doll made amends when she got the better of Closing Argument by a length to land supporting event.

Princess Sparkle, Daruwala and Shiracco won the first three races.

Jockey M. Manzoor also came out with a double by sprinting Princess Sparkle and Voo Doo Doll to victories.
