KARACHI, June 29: Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani has said that the local bodies system failed to deliver and resolve public grievances due to corruption.

While talking to various delegations from Shikarpur at his residence on Sunday, he said action would be taken against corrupt nazims to ensure smooth functioning of various local government departments.

Mr Durrani pointed out that the department received many complaints against nazims of various districts and talukas, saying that after thorough investigation proper action, including recommendation for their disqualification, would be taken.

He alleged that development funds were looted, plundered and misused during the previous government’s tenure. The Sindh Local Government Ordinance was very clear regarding perks and privileges of the representatives of local bodies and exceeding the entitlement was bound for action under the law, he added.—APP
