RAWALPINDI, June 28: Mystery shrouds the identity of an under-trail prisoner who has been in different jails of the country since 1986 and claims to be a former ad hoc judge of the Lahore High Court as there is no record of his being a judge with the LHC Rawalpindi Bench.

Dr Ghulam Mustafa Ismail Qazi, an accused in two cases registered by the FIA in 1986 for making money from people on the pretext of sending them abroad, saw yet another adjournment in the court of Special Judge Central Shaukat Ali Sajid.

The court put off the hearing till July 3 as record of the bail granted to the accused in the two cases in 1998 was yet to be found.

The accused claims that he has served as an ad hoc judge of the LHC at Rawalpindi bench in 1986 but when this scribe visited the high court, no record of him was found. And, an official of the court said that the LHC chief justice had already inquired about Dr Qazi but no record was found.

On the other hand, the accused - Mr Mustafa - says all record pertaining to him has been destroyed as he served notices to the then First Lady in 1986 asking her to appear before the court in a drug case.

He has also written to the federal government for provision of A-category facilities in the jail as “he is a former judge of high court”.
