ISLAMABAD, June 24: Pakistan and India on Tuesday agreed to improve exchange of vital counter-terrorism information to assist each other in investigation of incidents of terrorism and in pre-empting attacks.

“Both sides agreed to continue to work to identify counter-terrorism measures, assist in investigations through exchange of specific information and for preventing violence and terrorist acts,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office at the conclusion of the third meeting of the Pakistan-India Joint Anti-Terrorism Mechanism said.

Sources said the two sides had agreed to improve the quality of exchange of information and the level of their counter-terrorism cooperation.

“The atmospherics were very positive” Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said.

Both sides exchanged fresh information about terrorism incidents, including blasts in Jaipur, Ajmer, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Mumbai and Delhi and the bombing of Samjhauta Express.

They reviewed the steps taken on the information shared during the earlier meetings.

Pakistan’s delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Additional Secretary Masood Khalid and the Indian side by his counterpart Vivek Katju.
