KARACHI, June 22: The municipal administration of Shah Faisal Town has finalised the arrangements to cope with any untoward situation during the ensuing monsoons, says a statement issued on Sunday.

It said that all the relevant departments had been directed to remain alert and leave of all the town staff had been cancelled.

The officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) have also been directed to repair leaking water lines and to put covers on open manholes.

On the directives of the town nazim, the departments of solid waste, electrical and parks have constituted their special squads to effectively respond to the public complaints during the monsoons.

The acting town nazim, Kareemuddin, also visited various all union councils in the town to review the monsoon arrangements.

He directed the relevant staff to keep the control rooms functional round-the-clock.

He also ordered cleaning of all the storm-water drains and repairs of leaking water lines.

A central control room has also been established at the town office, which will work round-the -clock and people may contact on 021-9248648 to lodge their rain-related complaints.

Baldia Town gets water supply

The municipal administration of Baldia Town has started the supply of potable water to different areas of the town through water lines.

This was stated by the nazim of Baldia Town, Kamran Akhter, while talking to people during the inspection of 19-D pumping station.

He said that piped water was a long-standing demand of the area people.

The town nazim said that development works were under way in almost each and every locality of the town without any discrimination.

He ordered the relevant officials to maintain the standard in provision of civic facilities to the people and to employ all available resources in execution of the various ongoing uplift projects in the town.

Uplift of Lines Area

The naib nazim of Jamshed Town, Ziauddin Jamal, has directed the relevant officials to take practical steps for an uninterrupted supply of water to the Lines Area and all the adjoining settlements while ongoing work on sewerage system should be completed at the earliest.

These orders came during an inspection of the various ongoing development schemes in the Lines Area.

He pointed out that Lines Area was one of the most important areas in the middle of the city and its improvement would be beneficial not only to the people of the area but would benefit all the Karachiites because important roads were linked with this area.

The naib nazim said that the development schemes in this area were being implemented quickly with the cooperation of the city government and particularly the construction of a road from Taj Complex to Preedy Street was a major achievement.

Mr Jamal said that the problems of this area would be uprooted in the next few years with the implementation of more and more development schemes.

He also sought public cooperation for the removal of encroachments from the area.—APP
