LHCBA critical of Taseer, Altaf

Published June 17, 2008

LAHORE, June 16: Lahore High Court Bar Association Secretary Rana Asadullah has said Governor Salman Taseer had erred in describing the long march turnout.

Mr Asadullah was talking to reporters while distributing sweets on the premises of the Lahore High Court Bar Association. He said the governor should stop seeing developments through the prism tainted with his political affiliations.

He also criticized MQM chief Altaf Husain for speaking against the lawyers movement. He added the lawyers’ long march was an unprecedented event, with no parallel in country’s history.

The LHCBA secretary said it was wrong to assume that the lawyers had planned a sit-in before the parliament. He added the decision to disperse peacefully was a result of the wisdom of the people, who were steering the long march.

He rejected reports that the lawyers’ community was divided. He added their leadership would soon spell out further course of action to have the deposed judges restored. — Reporter
