SHEIKHUPURA, June 14: Prisons Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Salak Jalal on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the local jail as a common person and later suspended an assistant superintendent and four wardens for negligence and misconduct.
The DIG queued up along with others to obtain a permission chit to enter the jail. The employee deployed there demanded bribe, which was paid by the DIG.
The DIG later went to the prescribed meeting place and found a prisoner using cellular phone. Finally, the jail staffers got frightened when Jalal introduced himself. The DIG also found a prisoner carrying Rs17,000 cash in his pocket.
The DIG then suspended from service Assistant Superintendent M. Irshad and wardens Jahangir, Saleem Shahzad, Naeem and Imtiaz Ahmad who were performing administrative duties and issued show cause notices to the superintendent and the deputy superintendent.
CAUGHT: The Sadar police arrested two proclaimed offenders after a shootout on Gujranwala Road on Saturday.
On a tip-off, the police raided the hideout of the POs on which they opened fire. The police retaliated and two POs, later identified as Sajjad and Zeeshan, were arrested while fleeing after the ensuing shootout. However, their two accomplices Iram Khan, of Lucky Marwat, and Irfan Khan fled.
DPO Zaeem Iqbal said the POs were wanted by the Sheikhupura, Ferozewala and Sharaqpur police in dozens of cases.
LAW, ORDER: Sheikhupura Range DIG Ch Tanvir Ahmad has said that all-out efforts to control crimes and provide relief to masses will be made.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said that Sheikhupura and Nankana police, in an operation, had arrested 2019 proclaimed offenders, 917 court absconders. He said police smashed 132 gangs and booked 300 criminals involved in heinous crimes. In 12 encounters, nine wanted men were killed and 33 arrested.He said the Sheikhupura Range police had succeeded in releasing eight abducted people during the last five months. He police had also reduced the rate of murder and dacoity cases.
He said all police officers had been directed to register cases immediately after submission of complainst.
He said an open court would be held on Monday (tomorrow) at the DPO office at 11 am.
