KARACHI, June 14: A campaign to clean major drains across the city has been launched by the city government to avert any loss of life and property or unnecessary hardship to citizens during the monsoon rains.

A total of 150 personnel, 41 trucks, 10 grab cranes and five excavators, besides dumpers, loaders and other heavy machinery and equipment, have been mobilised to undertake the cleaning operation.

The city government teams have already started cleaning Gujjar nullah and lifting garbage from major drains.

CDGK municipal services department said on Saturday that more than 250,000 tons of garbage had been taken out of the drains so far.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) Mohammad Suleman Chandio, on the directives of Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani, asked five zonal in-charges to set up emergency centres in all 18 towns.

He advised people to dial 9245140, 9245139 and 9245138 if they required KWSB help in case of any emergency.—PPI
