RAWALPINDI, June 9: Lawyers here on Monday observed a complete boycott of the court proceedings both at the district and high courts in connection with their preparations for the proposed long march caravan that would reach in Rawalpindi on June 13 or 14.

They remained busy in making arrangements to welcome and accommodate the lawyers who would stay here in the city before proceeding towards the federal capital.

The high court and district bar associations have set up 12 different committees with different tasks ranging from security to accommodation of the people, who would come with the lawyers’ caravan, assigned to them.

The lawyers also observed hunger strike at the district bar, which has launched a campaign to mobilise the people to participate in the march.

They decided to welcome deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry-led convoy of the lawyers coming from Lahore at Sawan Bridge near the high court and the caravans coming from NWFP at Kachari Chowk and assemble at the district bar where deposed CJ might address the participants.

It was later in the day when District Bar President Sardar Tariq Masood inaugurated a camp at Liaqat Bagh where the lawyers started what they called the motivation campaign. At the camp, the lawyers played national songs and distributed pamphlets about the significance of the restoration of the judges and importance of an independent judiciary.
