ISLAMABAD, June 6: PML-Q secretary-general Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed made some stunning revelations in Senate on Friday about non-implementation of a parliamentary committee’s recommendations on Balochistan.

Speaking after the announcement of Sanaullah Baloch’s decision to resign from Senate, he said that a hawkish section in the military establishment had sabotaged the committee’s recommendations.

The parliamentary committee had been formed in 2004 to resolve the Balochistan issue. It was headed by the then prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Later, the committee was divided into two sub-committees, one headed by Mushahid Hussain and the other by Wasim Sajjad.

The Mushahid committee had submitted a detailed report containing some 30 recommendations.

“A section of the military establishment’s hawkish elements who wanted to seek solution of a political issue through military means had sabotaged the recommendations prepared by the sub-committee headed by him,” he said.

He recalled a meeting between FC General Dar with the nationalist senators in October 2004, when the general had apologised for any violation of human rights.

Late Nawab Akbar Bugti, he said, was a great patriot who agreed with the PML leadership and the committee’s proposals for adopting the path of dialogue which resulted in an agreement between the two sides.

“We will be with the government whatever good steps it will take for the betterment of the people,” he quoted Nawab Bugti as having stated.
