TIMERGARA, June 5: The zonal chapter of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Samar Bagh Lower Dir on Thursday decided to convene a jirga of all the political parties of the sub-division on June 12, to decide how wheat flour smuggling to Afghanistan could be stopped.

The JI’s zonal amir, Izazul Mulk, told Dawn on Thursday that a delegation of the party and other elders of the area met the District Coordination Officer, Suhail Khan, and the District Police Officer, Fida Hussain.

He said that both the officers were informed that wheat flour had been smuggled to Afghanistan openly through Binshahi road for the last two months, but despite repeated demands from the residents of the area no step was being taken.

Mr Izaz said that the JI had decided to convene a grand jirga of local politicians and notables of the area on June 12. The jirga would be presided over by the provincial chief Sirajul Haq, he added.

“If the government failed to stop wheat flour smuggling to Afghanistan then the jirga may decide to set up checkposts on the Binshahi road, where volunteers would offer duties,” Izaz said.
