Lawyers set for show today

Published June 5, 2008

LAHORE, June 4: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) are set to take out rallies today (Thursday) in protest against the delay in the restoration of the judges, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.

LHCBA Secretary Rana Asadullah urged lawyers to participate in the rally to show their commitment to the cause of restoration of judges. He appealed to his colleagues not to file urgent cases on Wednesday to avoid appearance before judges on Thursday.

The call came in the backdrop of the itchy problem the Pakistan Bar Council faces in ensuring the implementation of boycott of court proceedings before the judges appointed under the Provisional Constitution Order. The LHCBA has formed a committee, which stops lawyers from pleading their cases on Thursday.

The committee has displayed in the barrooms the names of around two dozen lawyers, who violated the boycott call on previous Thursday. Pakistan Muslim League-N General Secretary Raja Ashfaq Sarwar and Gen (retired) Safdar Ali Khan will address the LHCBA protest meeting.
