SWABI, May 31: The lawmakers from the tribal region have urged the Pakhtuns to forge unity among their ranks in order to avoid further spill over of militancy in the region.

The legislators including senators Haji Abdur Raziq from Dara Adamkhel, Rashid Ahmad from Kurram Agency and Ghaffar Qureshi from Sindh and MNAs Sajjid Hussain from Kurram Agency and Engr Shaukatullah Khan from Bajaur Agency, said this, while addressing a public meeting at the residence of Inayatur Rehman at Zaida here on Saturday.

They said that the fire of terrorism and extremism ignited by the United States and its allies had engulfed the whole Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata) and some parts of settled areas in the NWFP and it could reach other parts of the country.

Senator Raziq said that interference of the US and its allies in the tribal region had caused human and financial losses.

“Today the tribal region as a whole and parts of the Frontier face turmoil,” he said, adding: “The peaceful atmosphere in the tribal areas has been turned violent and the ultimate sufferers are the poor tribesmen.”

He urged the Pakhtuns to forge unity among their ranks to frustrate all such conspiracies being hatched by elements with vested interest.

“To cope with the prevailing situation in Fata the whole nation should join hands and play its due role to confront these challenges,” said Senator Raziq.

About the role of the Upper House of the Parliament, Senator Rashid Ahmad said that it represented the whole country and its role in politics was vital.

The lawmakers announced provision of five electricity transformers for Zaida city and Rs500,000 for the construction of streets in the area.

The two members of the National Assembly Sajjid Hussain and Engr Shaukatullah Khan, as well as union council nazims also spoke on the occasion.
