MANSEHRA, May 29: Three people were killed and 11 others injured when six armed men stormed a wedding ceremony and opened indiscriminate fire in the Kathara area, 20km from here, on Wednesday night.

Police sources said the assailants carrying sophisticated weapons entered the house of Mohammad Ajmal, a photographer in the press information department, and opened fire, killing his brother Mohammad Ishfar and relative Mohammad Shazad on the spot and injuring 12 others. One of the injured, Kawaja Mohammad, died in hospital.

The injured were shifted to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad from the District Headquarters Hospital, Mansehra, after preliminary treatment.

The police sources said the marriage of Mohammad Ayaz, son of Mr Ajmal, was in progress when Mohammad Farooque and five other men allegedly attacked the wedding ceremony.Police have arrested Mohammad Farooque, Mohammad Rafique, and Mohammad Naseer.

Talking to this correspondent, Mr Ayaz said his father-in-law Mohammad Siddique had turned down the proposal of his brother Mr Farooque for the marriage of his son Mohammad Naseer with his daughter and given her hand to him, infuriating Mr Farooque.
