KARACHI, May 1: The Pakistan People’s Party has sent a detailed report describing the low turnout in the presidential referendum to the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations, US State Department, Commonwealth and other international human rights organizations.

A video tape containing sights of polling stations set up in all the four provinces and having a deserted look has also been sent to the international agencies.

According to the PPP sources, two different delegations led by Commonwealth nations and the Canadian High Commission called on the PPP central leadership at Bilawal House on Wednesday. Both the delegations were apprised of the complete details related to the referendum.

The report says that the referendum campaign fell victim to lack of interest and the whole nation had confined themselves to their houses during referendum day.

Contrary to government claims, the PPP report asserted that only 5 to 7 per cent votes were cast throughout the country.

According to their estimates, 3.5pc votes were cast in the 22 districts of NWFP, 4.6pc in Punjab’s 34 districts, 4.50pc votes in Balochistan with 20 districts, while 3.50pc votes were polled in the 16 districts of Sindh.
