GUJRAT, May 27: Four robbers took away Rs2 million cash and gold ornaments worth Rs0.5 million from a house of Shadman colony, the city’s posh area, in broad daylight here on Tuesday.

Reports said the robbers entered the house of Chaudhry Azhar in Shadman colony, held inmates hostage at gunpoint and made off with a cash of Rs2 million and jewellery worth about Rs0.5 million.

DSP Mumtaz Shah and Civil Line SHO Ilam Din reached the spot and cordoned off the exit and entry points of the city.

Civil Line police did not register a case till the filing of this report in the evening.

Earlier a foreign currency exchange dealer Muziyan Butt of Muslimabad locality had been robbed of Rs8.5 million around one and a half months ago in Civil Line police precincts, but the police is still clueless about the culprits.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has not posted DPO here and SP (headquarters) Afzal Virk has been working as the officiating DPO for the last one month.

The people of Gujrat, especially the business community have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district and demanded immediate measures to curb the rising incidence of robbery.
