ISLAMABAD, May 27: A man committed suicide by shooting himself with a rifle here on Tuesday, police said.

Zufran Hussain, 19, a resident of Nilore, shot himself dead using a licensed rifle owned by his father, who is a farmer by profession.

Police quoted the victim’s family as saying that they rushed to a room after hearing the sound of a gunshot but found the door bolted from inside. They broke open the door and found Hussain lying in a pool of blood with the rifle at his side.

The victim was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Later, the police was informed who arrived at the hospital and took the body in their custody for legal process.

The police said Hussain received a bullet wound to his chest and apparently it looked as if it was a suicide incident.

Investigators cited the family as saying that the victim was mentally retarded. Hussain’s mental health was not good since long, and it was because of this fact that he had to discontinue education from class-VI.

Meanwhile, a man tried to commit suicide for the third time and survived again, but the act resulted in registration of a criminal case against him, police said.

The man, NA, a native of Nowshera, attempted suicide by shooting himself in the abdomen with a 30-bore pistol in his house at E-11.

The victim claimed that it was a licensed pistol belonging to their late father, but he failed to produce the document.

He is running a small grocery shop at E-11, and also working as a night watchman to earn livelihood, but was not getting proper income, police said, adding that he also had chest problem since long.

The victim lately had a scuffle with his brother which drove him in distress and he took the extreme step, the police said.

Earlier, he tried to commit suicide by hanging and shooting himself in the last four years in Nowshera, police quoted the victim’s brother as saying.

The police registered a case against NA on charge of trying to commit suicide and carrying illicit weapon on the complaint of his brother.
