SHIKARPUR, May 27: A woman was killed while four other people injured when a group of eight armed men attacked and opened fire at a wedding party in village Qaimuddin Labano in the Lakhi Ghulam Shah area on Tuesday.

Ms Dadli, the mother of bridegroom, was killed on the spot and Aijaz Ahmed Chohan, the bridegroom, Ali Nawaz Chohan, Riaz Ahmed Chohan and Ms Zakiya were injured in the firing.

The motive behind the attack was said to be a matrimonial dispute.

No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.

Water shortage: The growers of Ganang Wah staged a demonstration near village Dreha and blocked the National Highway at Shikarpur-Sukkur road against the shortage of water in the canal on Tuesday.

They were led by Khuda Bux Khoso, Mohammad Daud Khoso, Shakeel Ahmed Soomro and others.

The growers demanded release of water in Ganang Wah from Guddu Barrage so that the growers could sow the Kharif crops.

They also demanded transfers of the executive engineer of Guddu Barrage, Abid Naich, and the SDO of Ganang Wah, Ayaz Soomro, who, they claimed were involved in creating artificial shortage of water.
