KARACHI, May 26: Hurriedly formed yet formidable Essa Laboratory lifted the men and women’s team event trophies in the 36th Karachi Table Tennis championships, outplaying their opponents in the finals at Islamia Club on Monday.

Asim Aziz was instrumental in Essa Laboratory’s 3-1 victory over Hassanabad Club in the men final while sisters, Maliha and Ghalia, with rich international experience to their credit helped their team brush aside Islamia Club 3-0 to land women team event crown.

The diagnostic firm has hired four men and an equal number of women on variable stipend as a stepping stone to help promote the game.

The victorious men team received the trophy from President of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF), S.M. Sibtain, while local philanthropist Ovais Ahmed Kohari awarded the women trophy.
