KARACHI, May 25: Favourite four-year-old bay filly Diamond In Dust reclaimed her top slot after galloping to three-and-a-half lengths’ victory over arch rival Tyre Jee while landing The Roses In May Cup at the Gymkhana race meeting on Sunday.
The filly from the stables of Syed Ismail Shah was partnered by jockey Ghulam Shabbir II in a start-to-finish bid to register her fourth win of the year at the Karachi Racecourse.
Both Tyre Jee and Diamond In Dust were stunned by mare Spice Of Arab last weekend.
Colt Spirit Of Arab seized the third place seven lengths behind while Desert Hawk completed the board in a field of 10 runners in the six furlongs race.
After three unsuccessful attempts favourite four-year-old chestnut filly Crown Prince made amends by presenting her owner with a winner in the concluding race which was also the supporting event.
Owned by the KRC administrator Haji Khuda Bux Rajar and saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan, the filly was piloted home by M. Nasir to a three-length victory over mare Blind Date.
They were followed by filly Sweet Girl and mare Lady Conqueror. The latter was not on job. The field was reduced to seven following withdrawl of Leopard Of Arab in the morning declaration.
It was a day of favourite horses as five of them obliged the punters in a card of six.
Jockeys Shabbir and Nasir shared the riding honours partnering a brace of winners apiece.
Six-year-old bay Bharosa completed hat-trick by getting the better of filly Baby John in the top division of class VII.
Bharosa had a perfect start under rider Arshad and led the field of 13 runners. On the other hand, Baby John lagged far behind but after negotiating the bend, she overtook opponents to finish close second.
Manan Prince and John Player occupied the third and fourth place, respectively.
Outsider mare Eye Lady created the only upset of the day by winning the opening race. She beat Qandhar by two-and-a-quarter lengths with Mohammad Essa astride.
Joint favourites Royal Loyalty and Full ‘N’ Final settled for third and fourth places.
Colt Speed Of Arab stormed to a facile seven-length victory over Hamza Joy to claim the second race while another colt Fast Track chalked up his maiden win in the third race, outpacing Sayeen Jee by three lengths.
