KARACHI, May 21: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-V, South, on Wednesday remanded three suspects in police custody till June 2 for their alleged involvement in the death of three bandits in Eidgah area.

According to the prosecution, a mob had beaten up three suspected bandits on Nishtar Road in the limits of Eidgah police station on May 14 and later immolated them. The police arrested the accused Mohammad Iftikhar, Shafiq-ur-Rahman and Mohammad Iqbal on May 20 for their alleged involvement in the case.

The police have registered a case under Sections 147, 148, 149, 353 and 316 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Eidgah police station.

Meanwhile, the court of the additional and sessions judge-II, Central, on Wednesday again deferred the indictment of five suspected terrorists till June 2 due to their non-production from central prison in courts.

The court had issued a notice to the jail superintendent directing him to produce the accused on the next date of hearing. The judge had also issued a notice to the jail superintendent on previous hearing (May 14) asking him to produce the accused before the court on Wednesday, however, he failed to comply with the court’s order.

According to the prosecution, five suspected terrorists, Syed Mohammed Waseem alias Imran, Mohammed Aijaz alias Abdul Rehman, Jamil Ahmed alias Wazir Akbar, Mohammed Hamid, alias Qasim and would-be suicide bomber Aziz Ahmed, alias Mohammed Khan were planning to carry out suicide attacks on the processions during Ashura.

The investigation officer stated in the charge-sheet that on Jan 19, the CID police on a tip-off raided a house in North Karachi which was being used by the suspected terrorists as a hideout and storage facility for weapons and explosives.

The terrorists opened fire when police reached the spot and were arrested after a shootout. The CID police had recovered unlicensed weapons and explosives substance from the accused possession, it added.Six cases (FIR Nos.3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10/08) were registered against the accused under Section 324, 353 and 392 of Pakistan Penal Code, 13-D of Arms Ordinance and 3/4 of Explosive Act.
