KARACHI: May Day programmes

KARACHI, April 30: Various meetings are being organised by different organisations in the city to observe the May Day on Wednesday.

The May Day is observed to pay homage to the sacrifices rendered by labourers in Chicago, USA in the 19th century.

The National Trade Union Federation Pakistan is organizing a meeting at the Marhaba Lawn near A. O. Clinic in Nazimabad in the morning (9 am).

Labour leaders S. P. Lodhi, Mohammad Rafiq, Salim Raza, Mohammad Qasim Anwer, Zubair-ur-Rehman, Rahim Awan, Ghani Z. Awan, Munawar Raza, Shafiq Ghori and others will speak.

The National Workers Party is organizing a meeting at the PMA House on Garden Road, in the evening at 5 pm. Yusuf Musti Khan, Usman Baloch, Akhtar Hussain Advocate, Roshan Kalhoro, Jameel Shahid and others will speak.

Members of the Pakistan Workers Confederation, the Movement for Labour Rights, the Action Committee for Civic Problems and the Karachi Union of Journalists will gather at Hassan Square in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in the afternoon at 3 pm.

They will take out a procession from the square and, after marching through various city streets and roads, reach the Press Club at 5 pm, where a rally would be held.

Various workers organizations are also organizing a meeting at the CTO compound in the morning at 11 am. Manzoor Razi and others will speak on the occasion.
