LAHORE, May 16: The All-Pakistan Lawyers’ Representatives Convention is set to take place at the Lahore High Court Bar Association office on Saturday.

The lawyers’ representatives will carve out future line of action for the community and restoration of the deposed judges.

The lawyers are of the view that the delay in the restoration of judges is unnecessary and reflects that the government is not interested in allowing the judiciary to be independent.

The most controversial of the decision, regarding giving a call to the community for launching a long march on Islamabad in protest against the delay, would also be considered. The decision is set to meet opposition as the lawyers associated with the PPP advocate waiting for the decision of parliament.

The Pakistan Lawyers Forum says any decision on launching a long march would harm the nascent democracy in the country. They have already asked the lawyers not to criticise the party and its co-chairman, Asif Zardari, for the delay.

Some lawyers believe it was high time the community launched a long march and involved the deposed judges to take their movement to its logical end. The convention will also decide whether to allow Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan to contest the bypoll.

Mr Ahsan had said at a press conference that he would accept the decision of the representatives of the lawyers on his election.
