ISLAMABAD, May 15: President Pervez Musharraf has elevated Justice Azizullah M. Memon to the post of Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC), replacing Chief Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro who has been appointed a judge of the Federal Shariat Court for one year, an official announcement issued here on Thursday said.

Justice Azizullah Memon is the senior-most judge of the SHC. The president has elevated him to the top judicial post in the province in exercise of powers conferred by Article 198 of the Constitution.

Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro has been appointed FSC judge under Article 203C (2) of the Constitution (Federal Shariat Court).

In the evening, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan administered oath to Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro and Justice Azizullah M. Memon at a ceremony at the Governor House in Karachi.
