KARACHI, May 12: Candyland clinched the weekly Duplicate bridge tournament at the Aslam Bridge Hall on Sunday evening by raising 108 victory points (VPs).

They started the competition with 25-5 victory against Mushahid. Adventurers were their next victim who lost 8-22 to them.

However, in the third round, Solox beat Candyland 17-13.

Thereafter, Attackers and Upcomers could not stop Candyland’s march to the victory stand. Both the teams lost to them 7-23 and 5-25 respectively.

Candyland had the services of their three regular pairs — Mohammad Ismail-Mubashir Puri, Ziaullah Baig-Hamed Mohiuddin and Khaled Mohiuddin-Hasan Askari.

Gurujee having Rashid Shamsi, Mushtaq Mahmood, Mutisham Ashai and Ebrahim Baig in their fold secured second spot with 89 VPs.

They lost first two matches to Upcomers 13-17 and Mahmood IV 12-18, but bounced back to defeat Abbas IV 24-6, Adventurers 22-8 and Solox 16-14.

In the Mitchel Movement which attracted 26 pairs, S.M. Ozair-Zafar Zaki scored 68.84 per cent to grab the first position from the North-South direction.

Anwer Kizilbash and Syed Ameer Hasan finished second with 61.19 per cent score.

From the other direction, Hasan Askari-Ghufran Ashraf topped with score of 67.60 per cent followed by Mubashir Puri-Khalid Mohiuddin (58.80 per cent).

Meanwhile, bridge players have been invited to participate in midweek pair contest at the Karachi Club at 6pm on Tuesday.—Agencies
