PPP eyes PML-N support

LAHORE, May 11: The Pakistan People’s Party believes that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will support the government in the adoption of a constitutional package being prepared by the two sides even if the PML-N opted out of the cabinet.

"They will support the package whether they are with us or not in the cabinet," Information Minister Sherry Rehman told Dawn on Sunday.

However, a PML-N leader who requested not to be named said the matter would come under discussion at the party’s central working committee meeting to be held on Monday.

Asked if the PML-N's support to the proposed package was linked to the restoration of the deposed judges, the leader said it was for the party to take a decision on the subject.

Ms Rehman said the government would bring the constitutional package after it was finalised by the experts' committee.

She said the relationship between the PPP and the PML-N would remain unaffected despite a difference of opinion on the issue of judges. She said both the parties would continue to work for the ideals set in the Charter of Democracy.

In response to a question, the information minister said the modalities for the restoration of the deposed judges would be made public by the relevant authorities.
