GUJRANWALA, May 9: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked the coalition to resolve the judges’ issue by May 12 to pull the country out of uncertainty which is harming the economy.

At a meeting held here on Friday with chamber president Riaz Mahmood Bajwa in chair, the participants, including senior vice-president Sheikh Muhammad Tariq and vice-president Hafiz Muhammad Irfan Saeed, said that it was a core issue which the coalition government should resolve at the earliest.

The meeting said foreign investors were reluctant to invest in the country in such a situation. It apprehended that people could not get justice till the restoration of pre-emergency judiciary.

LAWYERS: A nine-member delegation of lawyers from Lahore on way to Islamabad by foot to meet chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry reached the district courts where bar president Malik Shaukat Ali Awan, general secretary Chaudhry Khalid Latif and other office-bearers warmly welcomed them and showered them with rose petals .

PROTEST: Motorcycle rickshaw drivers threw traffic out of gear on GT Road in protest against traffic warden for beating a driver over a minor issue and fracturing his arm and leg here on Friday.

Reports said that motorcycle rickshaw driver Waqas was on his way from Lohianwala by-pass when traffic warden intercepted him in front of Gulshan Iqbal Park and started beating him for not stopping his vehicle over his signal. He dragged him to the Model Town police station when he fell unconscious due to the torture.

On receiving information, scores of drivers of motorcycle rickshaws gathered on GT Road and blocked it.

Later, senior officers of police reached there and dispersed them.

The injured driver was rushed to the local DHQ hospital where doctors confirmed fractures in his arm and leg.
