SAHIWAL, May 7: Harrapa police on Wednesday killed a dacoit in an encounter.

Addressing a press conference, Sahiwal DPO Tariq Abbas Shah said Maqbool alias Kooli was wanted in 14 cases.

The DPO said motorcyclist Muhammad Yar, a resident of Harrapa, was on his way along Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC). On a bridge, he was stopped by two dacoits who snatched his mobile phone, Rs480 cash and bike at gunpoint.

He informed Harrapa police from a nearby call centre. SHO Muhammad Afzal, after receiving information, chased the dacoits along with his team.

After seeing the police at Bari Pattan near village 103/7-R, the dacoits left their bike, entered maize fields and opened fire. During a crossfire, dacoit Maqbool was killed while his accomplice managed his escape.
