LAHORE, May 6: The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday denied the custody of Hamesh Khan, sacked president of the Bank of Punjab.

A NAB spokesman told Dawn that the bureau was holding a probe into the sanction of loans in violation of rules and regulations by Hamesh and company but it did not pick them up.

An official source said Hamesh was picked up by another ‘law enforcement agency’ last week following his sacking from the BoP on the charges of corruption.

He claimed that accused would be handed over to the bureau after obtaining ‘required information’.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Pervaiz Elahi had alleged that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was ‘hell-bent’ upon destroying the BoP.

He said the move was politically-motivated to frame him and his relatives in the BoP scam. He claimed neither he nor any of his relative had obtained any loan from the BoP during his tenure as chief executive of Punjab.

Chief Secretary Javed Mahmood was not available for comments.
