LARKANA, May 5: Condemning the Election Commission decision to postpone by-elections in the country, the District Nazim of Nawabshah, Faryal Talpur, termed it an attempt to keep the voters of NA-207 unrepresented.

Speaking at a press conference at Naudero House of Ms Benazir Bhutto on Monday, she said that she was a serious candidate from this constituency and president of PPP Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah had arrived here to announce her candidature.

She said she was ready to file nomination papers after the party’s decision but at the eleventh hour the EC postponed the elections.

She termed the decision wrong and added the election on this constituency was postponed consecutively for third time.

She told journalists that she had already submitted resignation as district nazim of Nawabshah in the light of Sindh Local Government Ordinance to Sindh chief minister and he had accepted it.

So it would be a long gap of two and a half month for her to remain without the slot of district nazim while the constituency would be without representation, she added.

Answering a question, she said that a proposal to nominate her brother Asif Ali Zardari was also considered by the party but her nomination was finalised and on Monday she was filing the papers when the announcement of postponing the election came in.

Answering another question, she said her lawyers would study the constitutional and legal aspects of EC’s move.
