MIRPURKHAS, May 5: District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo has urged the government to compensate those poultry farm owners who incurred losses due to bird flu.

She was speaking at a seminar on “Facts about bird flu and containment strategy” held at the Gymkhana here on Monday. The seminar was organised by poultry department in collaboration with the district government and was attended by elected representatives and owners of poultry farms.

The nazim asked the experts of poultry department to play their role to save the future of poultry farming and control bird flu. She said that district government was cooperating with the poultry department to promote poultry farming and solutions of its problems.

She said that a poultry laboratory would be established in Mirpurkhas district.

The DCO Abdul Rahim Soomro, project director Professor Akram Munir, Dr Aslam Jalali, Director Poultry Sindh, Dr Ali Akbar Soomro and district officer poultry development, Dr Abdul Aziz Khan, said that bird flue was a world wide problem, which does not affect human being.

They said that federal government has launched a bird flue control programme at cost of Rs1,180 million in the country. They advised the owners of poultry farms to take preventive measures.
