RAWALPINDI, April 27: The district government on Saturday distributed Rs393,000 among 131 Leh flood-affected people at New Parian Union Council.

Each of the affected people received Rs3,000 from the Zakat funds. The district government has received Rs100m from the Zakat Foundation for the people affected by the July 23 Nulleh Leh flood. It has so far distributed Rs4.5m.

Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Tariq Kiani said the remaining money would be distributed among the other affected people in a phased manner.

The Nazim said the areas experiencing water shortage would be supplied water through Wasa tankers free of cost till the completion of Khanpur Dam and Rawal Lake Filtration Plant Extension projects, which, he added, would resolve the problem of water shortage to a great extent.

The Nazim, who was accompanied by Tehsil Nazim, used the occasion to canvass for the presidential referendum.

MEETING WITH MINORITY REPS: Talking to leaders of minorities in connection with the referendum campaign, the district Nazim assured Christians that a plot would be provided to them at Dhamial Road for the establishment of a graveyard.

He further promised that the various development schemes identified by the minorities’ representatives in district council would be taken up on priority basis.

The minorities will get to have a sizable share of the next instalment of Khushal Pakistan Programme, he added.
