Tribute paid to Tipu Sultan

KARACHI, May 4: Speakers at a symposium held here on Sunday paid tribute to Tipu Sultan for his courage and valour for the dignity of Muslim community in the subcontinent.

The symposium of organised by the Anjuman Yadgar-i-Tipu Sultan Shaheed at Banglore Town Hall to commemorate the 209th anniversary of his martyrdom.

The speakers said that Tipu Sultan sacrificed his life instead of surrendering to the invaders.

They said Tipu Sultan always stood for the unity of Ummah and fought for the cause more than 200 years back. His dream came true in the form of the establishment of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), they recalled, and stressed the need for making such organisations stronger and more effective.

Former KPT chairman Vice-Admiral (retd) Khalid Mir, speaking as chief guest, termed Tipu Sultan “a symbol of courage and valour”.

Prof Izhar-ul-Haq, Brig (retd) S.A. Qasim, Dr Mir Ilyasuddin, Prof Qutubuddin and Samiullah Sharif were among others who spoke at the symposium.
