MIRPURKHAS, May 2: Ten people were killed and 24 others injured when a bus and a pick-up collided on the Mirpurkhas-Tando Allahyar road, near the Khwaja bus stand, on Friday night.

The accident occurred when a wedding party on a bus and three pick-ups was returning to Haji Basheer Babbar village in Tando Hyder taluka of Hyderabad district from Pyaro Lund village.

A Mirpurkhas-bound bus coming from Hyderabad collided head-on with one of the wedding party pick-ups. Two vehicles of law-enforcement agencies took the bodies of the deceased and the injured to hospital.

The deceased were identified as Bakhtawar, 32; Zarina, 30; driver Mithu, 40; Aneeta, 20; two-year-old Amna; Ms Hajiyani, 50; and Almgir. The injured —Dilshad Babbar, Gulzar, Soomar, Ashiq Ali, Saima and Abdul Waheed — were admitted to the Mirpurkhas civil hospital.

Emergency was declared in the hospital and all doctors and staff were called. Mirpurkhas DCO Abdul Rahim Soomro and MPA Faheem Altafi visited the hospital.The deceased and injured people belonged to the same family.
