PESHAWAR, April 26: The United Municipal Workers Union (CBA), City District Government and Towns, has decided to observe their weekly off as tube-well operators and other staff concerned are not being paid overtime for performing duty on their weekly off for the last two years.

Speaking at a meeting of tube-well operators, pump mechanics, pipe fitters, sanitation and other civic staff here in the precincts of Gor Gathri on Friday, Haji Malik Mohammad Hasseb explained the highhandedness of the municipal officials and the Nazim Town-1, who were not ready to solve problems of municipal workers.

He said the tube-well operators, pump mechanics, pipe fitters and others had not been paid their dues, including overtime for the last two years.

“We have repeatedly asked the higher municipal authorities to pay outstanding amount of overtime forthwith, but they are not ready to make the payments. The union has decided that from Friday onwards all tube-well operators, pump mechanics, pipe fitters and sanitation staff will observe weekly off and not perform the duty on closed-days,” he added.

He said their decision would certainly cause inconvenience for the citizens, but the “sole responsibility lies with the director general of the City Management Development Department and the Nazim of Town-1.”
