GUJRANWALA, April 29: Dozens of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) employees blocked Deputy Commissioner Road and smashed windows of vehicles after masked men injured two of their colleagues here on Tuesday.

SNGPL regional office draftsman Amir Rauf and section accountant Usman were on their way to their office by a motorcycle when masked men opened fire on them near Deputy Commissioner Road, injured them critically and fled.

In consequence, all SNGPL office staff reached the scene and threw traffic out of gear on Deputy Commissioner Road. The protesters, carrying clubs and iron rods, smashed the windows of many vehicles. They demanded immediate arrest of the criminals and threatened they would stop gas supply to the entire region if police failed to arrest the criminals. Later, they dispersed peacefully.

FBR: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Abdullah Yousaf said here on Tuesday the tax system was being upgraded to enhance revenue collection.

Speaking to regional tax officers here, he said steps were being taken to make the national economy more sound and strong. He said tax payers were being facilitated to make the tax system more reliable. He urged tax officials to achieve revenue collection targets.
