KARACHI, April 26: Residents of Essa Goth Kutchi Abadi will get 60 sq yds plots under the redevelopment plan of Essa Goth.

This was stated by the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, while presiding over a meeting with the dwellers of Essa Goth Kutchi Abadis, F.B. Area, at the Sindh Kutchi Abadi Authority Headquarters.

He said that under the scheme, only 100 families will be accommodated now and it is the responsibility of the Essa Goth dwellers to work out and provide a list of bonafide residents who qualify under the existing rules of Kutchi Abadis.

He said that they should give their consent in writing within three days to start the redevelopment project, otherwise the government will take the decision in the larger interest of the people and city planning, he added.

Earlier, Director General SKAA, Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui, giving a brief background of the redevelopment schemes, said that there were three options to launch redevelopment schemes:

a) Resident get compensation and plot in Khuda Ki Basti to vacate the site.

b) To built flats on the site and accommodate therein the dwellers of Essa Goth.

c) Offer 60 sq yds plots to 100 families as per availability of land on the site.

He further informed that there was no feasibility to consider the settlement for regularization as per existing practice of other Kutchi Abadis. To meet the criteria under the SKAA regulation, a majority of the units will be affected by cutting and planning for utilities. He said that it is now up to the resident to decide and choose an option.—PPI
