ISLAMABAD Oct 23: A planeload of relief goods consisting of tents and blankest from the United States arrived here on Tuesday morning.

Speaking on the occasion Abbas Sarfaraz Khan said that the world community must build a humanitarian coalition to support the Afghan refugees whether in Pakistan, in neighbouring countries, and more importantly ensuring that this aid is delivered in Afghanistan as well.

He said, the fighting, the drought and now the bombing have increased the problems of Afghans manifold.

He said Pakistan was still facing difficulties in receiving the funds committed by international community.

The US ambassador to Pakistan Wendy Chamberlin said Wendy Chamberlin said, “it is the responsibility of the international community to eliminate all types of terror and this relief is a beginning of the job that they will be doing.”

She said, “there are plans to purchase additional items and other goods for the Afghans from Pakistan.”

The USAID representatives who arrived with the relief said that 35,000 blankets in addition to tents are being provided to save Afghans from cold.

He said that it was a part of President Bush’s initiative of $320 million for humanitarian assistance in the region.—NNI
